Film Studies offers an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to the study of moving images. Film students gain an understanding of the history, criticism, theory, aesthetics, and production of the moving image in the unique context of an interdepartmental program. Anthropology, Art and Art History, Languages and Literatures, Communication, Music, Political Science, Theater, and Business are investigated in all film courses. Students will collaborate with other departments to produce solo and group projects that coincide with the core curriculum.

All students will participate in the writing of a thesis or a project that integrates different fields of study to thoroughly explore a topic, question, or problem in great detail. Advisors/mentors will work closely with students in selecting a topic, conducting research, writing, and revising a thesis, or developing a comprehensive project. Students are encouraged to take elective courses that complement areas of interest and enhance their thesis or project.
